homesick (2024)

A 4x5 film series of portraiture & still-life representing my Nonna’s Alzheimer’s disease and her fragmented memories. The individual images separated by their negative borders act as the space between recollection, forgetting and reality. Cognitive decline is far from linear, as is this panorama where images overlap and memory becomes impermanent with portions hidden beneath layered images. For me this project acts as a moment of lucidity and a permanent memory of my Nonna in the house that I grew up in. Even if she may not remember, and it brings me comfort to capture as many moments we have together as possible, no matter how small they may be.
